Question from WebSite - 12/24/2011
QUESTION: I have recently purchased an older houseboat and am wondering if the electrical system is something the average handyman can handle or if there are special considerations concerning a houseboat system that requires hiring a professional? The houseboat has no generator, so it is simple (I assume simple) 120V shore power and 12V. Thanks
ANSWER: To answer your question I have to say that anytime one is working with electrical systems one should seek a certified electrician that understands marine applications. I hate to be so blunt but I dont feel this is an area that should be taken lightly. Serious issues can arise from one small mistake. Remember your houseboat is sitting in water.
