Valve adjustment and torqueing the head bolts

Your generator is a vital part of your houseboat and it requires reg. maintenance.  In this article we are discussing VALVE ADJUSTMENT.  This should be performed by a skilled service tech.  If you are so inclined you can certainly do it yourself.  Grab your manual and locate your model number.  Go to the spec section and know what the valve lash and head bolt values are supposed to be.  If you don't have a manual go to Westerbekes web page and download one.  This should be performed every 100 hrs. of operation.  Because this is a potentially damaging operation if not done correctly I'm not going to give step by step instructions on this one.  If you know how to do this you won't need instructions.  If you don't know how to do this certainly schedule a service rep to perform this operation for you.  It is VITAL to the life of the generator engine and can save you countless dollars. 

A skilled tech should be able to perform this operation in 1 1/2 hours easily.  If he tells you differently run don't walk and find someone else.
