Houseboat Grab / Hand Rails

When Merri and I purchased our boat one of the first issues we had with it where the existing grab rails that came on the boat. Every time we brought the boat back in to dock we had to explain to any help not to grab the hand rails. They would bend and or pull right off the boat. The bumpers/fenders caused the same problem rubbing on the dock or fingers. Needless to say this had to be corrected.  I searched for a cost effective replacement that would look great and be very durable.  I found a company named Pipe Dreams. This company builds custom wake board towers and virtually anything else that requires fabrication with metal. I met with the owner Todd Box and explained to him what I was needing.  He asks me to get exact measurements on what was currently bolted to the sides of our houseboat. I drew up a diagram of both sides with exact measurements with regards to mounting points and their relation to existing windows.  My wish here was that the new construction cover any and all existing mounting holes and offer the room for new holes for a fresh new fit. I felt this was a tall order but Todd and his team thought it to be very straight forward and easily done. I sent Todd the plans and in a few short days the new grab rails arrived.  Upon inspection of the new hardware I was amazed with the craftsmanship of his work.  The aluminum pipe had been sanded with 180 grit prior to being anodized.  His work looked more like polished stainless steel than aluminum.  Even the 4" round mounting plates where beveled and drilled and counter sunk to remove sharp edges. Todd's welds are incredible and one would think a robot did them. All of this is great but useless if they don't fit right and mount sturdy as a rock. Merri and I removed the old railing and started measuring for proper fitment of the new system. This company rocks!!!!!   The new railing was a snap to install and covered exactly every old mounting point and allowed for new holes to be drilled and mounted with #12 stainless counter sunk screws.  The new system looks fantastic and is solid as a rock. Problem solved.  Thanks to a Pipe Dreams and Todd Box.   You are true craftsman.  You can click on the GoYodeo button at the top of this article to view pictures of the application and the work these guys produce.  If you need something made from a wakeboard tower to new railing for you boat give Todd a call!!!  You will be amazed with the cost and the quality.
